Our search for a home.

It has a little more of an apartment feel, and we were hoping for more of a villa feel but it came down to a location decision. We could've rented a home that overlooked the water, but Tom would've had to commute almost an hour to and from work. There were other downsides to living so far from base, and in the end, we've decided to live about 10 minutes away.

We're happy with that decision, but with that decision came very few homes to chose from for a family our size. In the end, we were pressed for time and had to find a place. We're both not 100% excited about our new place, but we're trying to be positive and thankful, which we are. We're doing our best to make it a home. I think we've done pretty good so far. It's amazing what some paint and some pictures on the wall can do for a place.

Carey,Tom,DJ,Noah,and Lincoln,
Ithink your home is cute. It looks really cozy. I like the open views from the patio and deck. European homes are not large-too expensive to heat. I like all the windows. We had a fairly large house our first year in Germany but moved to an apartment which was really cozy-so nice and warm in the winter months. We froze to death in the bigger house. You will come to appreciate your closeness to the base-save money on gas-spend moreon traveling. Do you have wall--to-wall carpeting-hard to tell. Thanks for the pictures.
Love, Mom

Thanks for your encouragement, Frank and Linda!! We don't mind the smaller size, I think it's ALL of the long, marble stairs that make it feel more like an apartment. We also have a basement level with the washer/dryer, another bathroom, and play area which I didn't take pictures of. We definitely feel good about saving money and being close to base. No carpet in any of the Italian homes. We took advice from others who were living here and bought cheap carpets at Lowes before we came. So glad we did!

Hi Tom and Carey, DJ, Noah and Lincoln!!

You have got a great view from the balcony. Tom said you have about 1600 sq ft. You can't beat the convenience being near to the base, for shopping, emergencies, and just hanging out with other friends, colleagues.
Linda is spending hours on the computer looking for deals, etc in Sicily, Italy, Spain for June. She is becoming computer literate!!
The boys are getting so big. LIncoln is a real moose!!

Love, Dad

Carey,

Your new place lots great! I can see that you already put a lot of effort into decorating it and making it your own. I love how each of the boys have their names on the wall. So glad you found a place and that Tom is close to work. An hour commute would be so awful for Tom and you would miss out on so much family time. Thanks for posting all the pictures - its fun to feel like I know where you are living:)
