School is here!

As many of you know, we've decided to take a little break from homeschooling.  While we're in Italy we have the option of the base school and down the road, if DJ learns the basics of speaking, reading, and writing in Italian, he has the possibility of going to school out in town.

Overseas base schools generally have a great reputation.  They pay the teachers a generous salary and housing allowance, so it's very competitive.  It's a little sad for me to stop homeschooling, but we think this is best for our family right now.  I realize DJ and I can still work together on homework/learning after school.  The base school is brand new, and his classroom size is only 16.  He had his first day of 2nd grade yesterday!  He was all smiles.  DJ really liked school and when I picked him up after school, he wished the day wasn't over yet.

Getting ready to leave the Navy Lodge - school starts at 7:45 am.

Home sweet home.

While we're waiting for our rental house out in town, we're able to walk from the Navy Lodge to school.

Standing in front of the school.

In the courtyard where DJ meets his teacher and new classmates.

We still can't believe he's a 2nd grader now!  DJ lost his two front teeth just in time for the first day of school.

The kids found their name tags on each table.

DJ's teacher, Mrs. Andre.  She seems great.

Time to empty the backpacks with all of the school supplies.

Alright, enough pictures.  I should probably leave the classroom now!
School day ends at 2:15 pm.

What a treat to see DJ on his first day of school. I am sure you have mixed emotions about him going to a public school but what an opportunity for him!!

Are all the students there military children??

Thanks for keeping us in the loop of all that is going on in your lives. Beaches are beautiful! So is your family!!

Love, Jeanie Hertz

We still have Tom's phone call announcing Noah's arrival on our answering machine. One of life's precious moments! and now you have a 3rd boy and DJ is in 2nd grade. Wow! Well congratulations on all counts! We are all well, Davery is in 2nd grade also and Alicia is home schooling for the first time this year, so far it has been fun.
We love you all and will keep you in prayer. Brian and Linda Bettger

Julie - you're so awesome to comment on my blog. For a while, it was only the grandparents who read it! :-)

Kellianne - you can't let your husband come to Italy without you!!! This really isn't fair to you or me. So good to hear from you!

Jeanie and The Bettgers - thank you for reading our blog! Great to hear from you. Brian and Linda - we can't believe Davery is in the 2nd grade too! And we can't believe you still have Tom's message on your answering machine. Wow!!
